Potential donors and partners struggled to grasp why Book Trust was any better than all the other nonprofits that deliver books to kids, despite their best efforts to explain what made them unique. Together, we found a way to bring their secret sauce to light.

Equal voices in crafting the core messages

The creative sprint retreat is a unique part of our brand message creation process. It breaks through organizational walls, bringing leadership together with members from development, marketing and programs.

Various exercises intentionally gave each individual a voice and lead to the core message concepts that everyone felt excited to own moving forward.

It’s about more than a love for reading, it’s about breaking the cycle of poverty through literacy.

We explored many different ways of communicating the three core elements that makes the Book Trust program different: choice, celebration and consistency.

It was impossible to truly grasp the importance of choice, celebration and consistency, the hallmarks of the Book Trust program, without experiencing it through the eyes of a child in the program.

Through a composite of elements from real life stories, Angel was born.

This piece became a launch pad for a great conversation, allowing multiple entry points depending on what the particular viewer is interested in. It invites questions and evokes excitement while addressing various audience needs for both data and emotional stories.
